Historical note:   “One of the Biggest Thrills of the fair” was the Safety Glass exhibit in the Travel and Transportation building, that housed the Automobile Theatre. Safety Glass was demonstrated by a screen-enclosed tunnel through witch visitors were invited to throw baseballs at glass panels. The ordinary glass would “Shatter and Scatter,” while the ball would “actually Bounce Back from a piece of Safety Glass.” Everyone that threw a ball at the exhibit received a FREE Good Luck coin.

The 1903-1933 Ford Safety Glass Exhibit baseballs were produced by the Ford Motor company for use in an exhibition sponsored by the Safety Glass Manufacturers Association. Promotional brochures were also handed out to those visiting the Exhibit. The cover pictures Lefty Grove holding a baseball to a panel of safety glass where the ball hit, and reads Even Lefty Grove’s fastball bounced back from a piece of Safety Glass” The Brochure states “It is expected that more than 56,000 square feet of glass will be cracked and broken during the 5 months of the exposition….enough to glaze the average 20 story office building” Shipped USPS First class.
